Steve MacArthur is a Senior Consultant with Chartis Clinical Quality Solutions. He brings more than 40 years of consulting and healthcare experience to the firm. As an expert in the areas of healthcare environmental services and safety, he plays a critical role in supporting his clients as they prepare for and respond to compliance requirements. Steve helps hospitals, physician practices, ambulatory care, long-term care, home care, and behavioral health facilities prepare for and respond to agency accreditation, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) certification, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance surveys.
Steve conducts on-site environmental assessments, educational programs, and regulatory survey preparation of the physical environment and hospital emergency management programs for safety leaders. His decades of experience in acute care enable him to accurately identify areas of vulnerability and provide practical and sustainable remedies.
Steve consults and lectures on many topics including The Joint Commission's (TJC) Environment of Care, Life Safety Code, and Emergency Management standards, as well as CMS Physical Environment and Emergency Preparedness Conditions of Participation. Additional topics include guidelines and regulations for OSHA, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Environmental Protection, and state Departments of Public Health.
In addition, Steve serves as a Contributing Editor on the editorial advisory board of Healthcare Safety Leader. He is also the author of a weekly blog entitled Mac’s Safety Space. He has authored several books, including The Hospital Safety Director’s Handbook and Preparing For Mass-Casualty Incidents.
Prior to joining the firm, Steve was the Safety Manager at an acute-care community hospital in Southeastern Massachusetts.
Steve is a Certified Specialist in Healthcare Accreditation (CSHA).
